Places to Visit in Jodhpur

1. Mehrangarh Fort

This fort was established in the year 1459 by Rao Jodha in Jodhpur of Rajasthan. This fort is one of the largest forts in the country that is located at an altitude of 410 feet above. This fort can be seen in many Bollywood and Hollywood movies such as The Dark Knight Rises, The Lion King, Thugs of Hindustan, and many more. There are seven gates at the entrance point of this fort. There are temples, Rock Park, and museums in this palace which attracts a huge number of tourists.

2. Jaswant Tada

This is a marbled monument which is a mausoleum of the King of Mewar, that was constructed by Maharaja Sardar Singh to give tribute to his father Maharaja Jaswant Singh ll. The beautiful carvings on the marble wall attract the attention of tourists. You can also spot some local musicians and folk dances on the side of the path leading towards the entrance of this monument.

3. Mandore Gardens

This is the place where Royal fighters are buried and is located at a distance of 9km from the main city of Jodhpur. This garden is the part of majestic Mehrangarh fort. This place is having some temples with three hundred million Gods, there is a Hall of Heroes and also a museum in which old relics and some artifacts of that time are kept.

4. Umaid Bhawan Palace

Umaid Bhawan Place was established in the year 1943 in Jodhpur city of Rajasthan. This place is a residential place of Raja Gaj Sing who is the present owner, besides this, it is also a museum and a heritage hotel.  There are around 347 rooms in this palace and recently it was in the news as it was the wedding site for Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas.

5. Ghanta Ghar

Ghanta Ghar or clock tower is located in the center of the city that was established about 220 years ago by Maharaja Sardar Singh. It is located in Old Jodhpur and you can get a mesmerizing view of Jodhpur city from the top of the tower. There is also a famous market located near this tower which is the Sardar market which was named after the name of King.

6. Toorji Ka Jhalra

It is located at a distance of 6km from Jodhpur and was established in the year 1740. This is commonly known as this structure was made up of rose-red sandstone and was constructed about 250 years ago. This is basically a stepwell that was used as the local watering hole at that time.

7. Kaylana Lake

This man-made lake is located at a distance of 8 km from Jodhpur and is spread in an area of 84 square kilometers. It was built by Pratap Singh in the year 1872 and was the main source of clean drinking water for the people of Jodhpur and nearby areas. This place is best for observing the soothing sunset in the evening. This is also a good place for bird watchers as you can spot a variety of birds here.

8. Umaid Heritage Art School

This is an art school for one who wishes to learn the ancient artwork of Rajasthan and besides this, it is also an art gallery. This school belongs to Mr. Vijay Raj and he only manages this school. Here one can learn about charcoal work, sketching, view painting, and many more such things.

9. Phool Mahal

This flower palace is part of the Mehrangarh fort that was constructed by Maharaja Abhay Singh in the 18th century. This room is less accessible as it is a private kind of room. The complete decoration is done using Gold and lovely flowers as this room was generally used for leisure purposes. You can also have a look at beautiful paintings hanging on the wall of this room.

10. Hanwant Palace

This is a 5-star property which is located close to The Umaid Bhawan Palace. This was the place that was used for the purpose of hunting in the older times but now it provides the royal luxury dining experience. While dining on the roof of this palace you can also enjoy some live folk music and dance performed by local people.

11. Khejarla Fort

This is also a heritage hotel located in Jodhpur that was built by the Maharaja of Jodhpur in the 17th century. Now, this site is used as a heritage property to give the experience of royal life to its guests with all the modern amenities. This fort was made up of red sandstone which was a signature element in all the Rajputana architecture.

12. Mahamandir Temple

This temple is located at a distance of 2km from the main city of Jodhpur. This magnificent temple is having around 84 pillars that are having finely detailed carvings on it which easily catch the attention of its tourists.

13. Masuriya Hill Garden

This is basically a hill garden that is located on the top of Masuriya Hills. From this point, you can get a complete 360-degree view of the complete Jodhpur. 14. Mandaleshwar Mahadev Mandir

This is one of the oldest temples that is located in Jodhpur and was built in 923AD. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and having some fantastic paintings of Lord Shiva with Goddess Parvati. The temple is white in color with a splash of Green, Pink and blue color. This is almost 1000 years old temple.

15. Rai ka Baag Palace

This palace was established by the queen of Maharaja Jaswant Singh l  in the year 1663. This is among the major attractions of Jodhpur. Currently, this is home to the tax officer of Jodhpur and it is in octagonal shape.
