Places to Visit in Agra

1. Taj Mahal       

Taj Mahal is one of the wonders that is located in Agra on the bank of the Yamuna River. It was constructed by Shah Jahan who was a Mughal Emperor in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. In the 7th century, it was constructed using full white marble. Once you entered the Taj Mahal you can stay there for approximately 2.5 hours only. You can also visit the Taj Mahal during the nighttime but by paying extra money and just for 30 minutes in the batch of 50 people each time.

2. Fatehpur Sikri

It is located at a distance of 40km from Agra. This city was founded by Emperor Akbar in 1571 century. This place is having a magnificent fort made up of red sandstone. Akbar constructed this city and Jama Masjid which is a stunning mosque that is in use even today.  He also constructed three palaces one in Muslim, one in Hindu, and one in Christian format.

3. Agra Fort

Agra fort is constructed in the year 1573 by Emperor Akbar. This fort is located on the right bank of river Yamuna and is visible from the Taj Mahal. This is place was a residence for the Mughal empire in 1638. This UNESCO site is located at a distance of 2.5 km from the Taj Mahal. There is Moti Masjid that is located in this fort which was the place of worship for Mughals.

4. Itimad-ud-daulah’s Tomb

This tomb is a copy of the Taj Mahal, this tomb is made of white marble. This tomb was constructed by Nur Jahan in memory of his father Mir Gheyas Beg who was a minister in the Shah Jahan court. The architecture given to this tomb is Indo-Islamic architecture. This tomb was also constructed on the bank of the river Yamuna.

5. Mehtab Bagh

This bagh was the last Mughal architecture that is located in the northern part of the Taj Mahal. This bagh gives a picture-perfect view of the Taj Mahal. This bagh is having a huge octagon tank which is located in the center of this bagh and there are four sandstone towers located on the sides of this bagh.

6. Akbar’s Tomb

This tomb is the place where Akbar’s body is finally resting. This tomb is located on the outer boundary of Agra and is spread in an area of 119 acres. This tomb was constructed from 1605 to 1618. It is surrounded by a beautiful garden.

7. Chini Ka Rauza

This tomb is dedicated to the prime minister of Mughal Emperor of Shah Jahan, who was Allama Afzal Khan Mullah.  This tomb was constructed in Indo-Persian style from the year 1628 to 1639. This tomb is constructed on the bank of the river Yamuna, facing Mecca Masjid.

8. Wildlife SOS

This wildlife was established in the year 1995 for protecting the wildlife and safeguarding the flora and fauna. Here you can spot tigers, elephants, sloth bears, and other such endangered species. This wildlife reserve preserves 600 dancing bears. In this wildlife, bears are rescued and taken care of.

Kinari Bazaar is located in proximity to Jama Masjid that is located in Agra. this market is generally closed on Tuesday and on the rest of the days it remains open from 11 am till 9 pm in the evening. This is a famous wholesale market for handicrafts made out of rugs, leather, Marble, glassware, and other textiles.

3. Subhash Bazaar

This is one of the famous markets in Agra located near Halwai Gali which is close to Jama Masjid. Here you can get various silk fabrics and silk sarees. This market generally remains closed on Tuesday.
