Places to Visit in Pushkar

1. Brahma Temple

The temple is at Pushkar which is close to the sacred Pushkar lake. This temple is dedicated to the Jagat Pita Brahma. On the occasion of Kartik Poornima a festival is organized which is solely dedicated to Brahma which is held when a large no. of pilgrims carry out pooja in the temple after bathing in the sacred lake.

2. Pushkar Lake

Pushkar Lake is famous as Pushkar Sarovar located at Pushkar. It is a sacred lake for Hindus. The lake is surrounded by 52 bathing ghats where pilgrims horde in large numbers to take a sacred bath. The pilgrims visit around Kartik Poornima when the Pushkar fair takes place. It is believed that a dip in the sacred lake cleanses sins and cures skin diseases.

3. Varaha Temple

This temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu- Varaha Avatar a wild boar incarnation of the third avatar in the Dashavatar of Satya yuga. Here Varaha is worshipped as it is as an avatar of Lord Vishnu.

4. Pap Mochini Temple

The spiritual significance and the beautiful architecture of the temple make it very special. This temple is dedicated to Ekadashi Mata. The devotees believe visiting this temple will surely free them from their sins. It is situated in the northern part of Pushkar.

Another mythological belief is that Ashwathama’s son of guru Dronacharya in the Mahabharata was cursed by Krishna to roam the earth for three thousand years. It is believed that Ashwathama made a visit to Pap Mochini temple for salvation.

These stories related and beliefs related to the temple has made it very popular among the devotees. It has beautiful architecture offering an insight into India’s ancient architecture. The temple is located on the bank of a sacred lake. People coming for darshan take a dip in the sacred water of the lake before entering the temple.

5. Apteshwar Temple

The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Visitors visit this temple during festivals like Mahashivratri. Rituals in the temple include offering milk, curd, honey, and curd to shiv lingam. Bel leaves are also being offered to the deity of the temple by devotees with the purpose to fulfil their wishes. The glorious temple has a Hemadpanti style of architecture.

6. Old Rangji Temple

The temple is dedicated to god Rangji who is a manifestation of Lord Vishnu. This is the 150-year-old Hindu temple. The best feature of this temple is its architecture which has a unique fusion of Rajput, Mughal, and South Indian architectural styles.

7. Man Mahal

The Man Mahal is a palace believed to the biggest royal home build in the city. It is a full package of Rajasthani architecture. The palace is closely located to another attraction of Pushkar city, the sacred Sarovar lake. It is located to the east of the lake. The Man Mahal palace was built to serve as a city guest house for Raja Man Singh. The palace has an eye-catching beauty.

8. Savitri Temple

It is one of the famous pilgrimage places to visit in Pushkar. This temple is dedicated to the desolated wife of Lord Brahma, Savitri. It is built on the top of the Ratnagiri hills. The Temple is behind the Brahma temple. Both the Savitri and Brahma temples relate to each other. People visit both temples at the same time.

9. Gurudwara Sahib

The story behind this Gurudwara is that in the past this place was visited by Sikh gurus Guru Gobind Singh and Guru Nanak Dev when they were traveling to Rajputana states in 1706. It is 13 km from Ajmer.

The last guru of Sikhs- Guru Gobind Singh stayed was then renamed as Gandhi Ghat. There is a stone slab inscribed as Gobind Ghat under a kiosk in four different scripts- Devanagari, Gurumukhi, Persian, and Roman. It is located near the bus stand in Pushkar.

10. Gayatri Mata Temple

According to the mythology, Lord Brahma was cursed by his wife Gayatri when lord Brahma married an untouchable girl Savitri to complete the yajna ceremony during her absence. Goddess Gayatri was unaware of the marriage she then cursed Lord Brahma that he would not be worshipped anywhere else except Pushkar therefore since then lord Brahma and Goddess Gayatri are worshipped at this temple together.

11. Pushkar Camel Fair

It is also known as Kartik Mela, one of the most heavenly camel festivals in the country. It is an 8 -day long held in the month of November every year. It is organized to promote local camel and cattle traders to do business during holy Kartik Purnima. The fair holds multiple shops featuring Rajasthani handicrafts, art & culture. Activities that make the fair more exotic include magic shows, snake charmers, puppet shows, camel parades, and groomers.

12. Pushkar Bazaar

It is one of the top tourist destinations in Pushkar. It is famous for rose pulp. One can find handicraft items at a reasonable price. Rajasthani costumes are also available including leather bags made of camel skin, utensils made of brass, glassware.
