After Independence, the building had become a part of the Presidential Estate and later on was donated for higher studies by Dr. S. Radha Krishnan, The then President of India. Viceregal Lodge is constructed on the summit of Observatory Hill at a distance of 2km from Shimla.
Jakhoo Hill is the pinnacle of Shimla city with an altitude of 2,445m. One can reach the Jakhoo temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman by an arduous climb of approx. half an hour or so. One can easily opt for ropeway service instead and reach the Hanuman temple.
Just go to see the natural waterfalls, the Chadwick falls, so soothing to the eyes and soul. One may reach Chadwick falls on foot from summer hills.
Around 2km from Shimla Railway Station, one finds an expanse of level ground surrounded by forest trees. The area where one can visit the Army Heritage Museum. The ground here is used for a host of activities from playing cricket holding social and cultural activities, playing polo, golf to playing football. It is a captivating sight with its scenic beauty.
There is then Tara Devi Temple on the lap of Tara Devi temple by trek or by drive. The view from here is such a mesmerizing experience. Just walk from Mall Road and reach the Kali Bari temple. It is a much-frequented temple by Hindus especially Bengali who never forget to visit the temple. One can also visit the Hanuman temple that was built in 1950 and is only at a distance of around 5km from the city center.
There is a superabundance of activities and places to visit offered by Shimla yet one can overcome the chaos by prioritizing as per one’s interests. Go in for shopping because every visitor visiting Shimla wants to take back some or other souvenirs as a profound remembrance.
One can also witness beautiful sunset from Scandal's point or one can see the incredible life-size wax statues at Johnnie’s Wax Museum. Try not to miss the Toy train Ride that glides on the meandering tracks among the exciting hilly terrain.
