Vaishno Devi temple in Katra located in the Jammu region is one of the most visited Hindu shrines in the world. Several pilgrims visit this sacred temple every year. This temple is devoted to Vaishno Devi and is believed that whatever one wishes here gets granted. This sacred temple is considered the most prominent Shaktipeeths as it is believed that here the skull of the goddess Sati fell.
This temple is a cave styled holy temple and is situated at an altitude of 5200 ft above sea level so devotees need to trek 12 km distance to the top from a point. Another way to reach this sacred temple is by helicopter service, pony ride, or palanquin. During Navratras – March- April, and September- November as per the auspicious tithi days it witnesses a major crowd. The important thing to note down is that photography and videography are not allowed in the temple.
The sacred Bhairon Mandir is located at a distance of about 3kms from the Bhawan/holy cave of Vaishno Devi Mata in Katra. It is located at the adjacent hill of Trikuta. Bhairon Mandir has a havan Kund that is the major part of this sacred temple as the ashes are considered holy. According to mythology, the severed head of Bhaironath was tossed to the adjacent hill to Trikuta.
Bhairon while dying realised his mistake and asked Mata Vaishno Devi for forgiveness. Mata forgave him and gave him the boon of being worshipped by the devotees who would come to seek her blessing at the Bhawan and thus after paying a visit to Mata Vaishno Devi temple one needs to head towards the Bhairon Mandir. The holy yatra to Mata Vaishno Devi is only complete when the pilgrims pay homage at Bhairon mandir thus every pilgrim during their yatra visits Bhairon Mandir for darshan.
Trikuta Parvat is one of the holy places in Katra and is most visited by the Hindu devotees who come for the Vaishno Devi yatra. This hill is nestled at a height of around 752m and is almost 10kms away from Deoghar on the way to Dumka.
It is called Trikuta as there are three hills and tri means three. The Shravan months that is July to August witness several devote of Lord Shiva to collect bel since this region is rich in fruits and is labelled as the Garden of Shiva. One can witness the Shiva temple on this Parvat known as Trikutachal Mahadev temple. One can also head towards a cottage of Dayananda that is most famous as a picnic spot.
The beautiful Geeta mandir is situated in Katra and is one of the prominent sacred places. Several Hindu pilgrims pay homage to this sacred temple. This temple is located close to Ban Ganga Bridge that has marvellous architecture. Devotees also come here to take a rest before heading towards Mata Vaishno Devi yatra. Several pilgrims visit this temple to seek blessings for the safe yatra. One can witness another holy shrine- Pratham Charan Mandir near to Geeta Mandir. One can visit this temple in the months from March to October as the weather is pleasant in these months.
Ban Ganga is another holy place to visit during ma Vaishno Devi yatra. The Shivalik range of the Himalayas is where the Ganga originates from. According to the mythology, Mata Vaishno Devi was heading towards her cave one monkey was accompanying her and felt thirsty. With no water around Ma Vaishno shot an arrow in the earth due to which the Ganga sprang up and thus it got its name Ban Ganga where Ban means arrow. Bal Ganga provides relaxation to the pilgrims while trekking to Mata Vaishno Devi temple. Take a dip and feel fresh and relaxed before continuing further.
Baba Dhansar is another holy place to visit in Katra. It is situated at around 13kms from Katra. One needs to climb the 100 stairs. This beautiful temple is devoted to Lord Shiva. One can witness the pretty waterfalls and rich greenery around this temple. Visit this splendid place for some peace and tranquillity.

Jhajjar Kotli is one of the major tourist attractions that is located at about 15kms away from Katra. This serene place is famous for its tranquil surrounding. It is a loved picnic spot among travellers. Visit this splendid place to rejuvenate and surround yourself with soothing vibes. This place is one of the most frequented places in Katra.
Ranbireshwar Temple is devoted to Lord Shiva and is one of the prominent places in Katra. This temple is among the twelve jyotirlinga temples of Lord Shiva in India and is visited by several devotees who come here to seek blessings. It is crowded in the prominent festivals- Lohri, Diwali, Ram Navami and Makar Sankranti.
