Kanha Tiger Reserve

Kanha Tiger Reserve or Kanha National Park is the largest national park of Madhya Pradesh state in India. Kanha National Park was created on 1st June 1955 and in the year 1973, it was made the Kanha Tiger Reserve.

 This stunning reserve is in the Maikal range. Numerous Naturalists found this Kanha as the premier national Park in Indian and 1991 and 2001 Kanha National Park was honoured as the most tourism-friendly national park in India by the Department of Tourism, Govt. of India. It is known for its evergreen Sal forests and is home to around 300 species of birds, 43 species of mammals, 26 species of reptiles and around 500 species of insects.

The stunning Kanha Tiger Reserve is renowned for holding the significant amount of population of tigers. It is the only location in India where the most abundant variety of Barasingha can be found.

It also holds a huge variety of avifauna.  Enjoy Jeep Safari here that can be enjoyed twice a day for a specified time either early morning or late afternoon. Entry to the park is allowed only after the sunrise and exit before the sunset. Travellers can even enjoy the Elephant Safari that is organised by the forest department for an hour or an excursion of half-day. One needs to get the reservation done on arrival.

Travellers interested in animal history can visit the Kanha museum. The museum holds the pretty sculpted structures of the species that truly gives one the real effect. It also showcases the struggle for the conservation of the flora and fauna, shaping up of the National reserve to topographic information. It is maintained by the Forest Department of Madhya Pradesh and adds up to the beauty of this reserve.

Get the serene view of the sunset from the Bamni Dadar- one of the most attractive spots of the National Reserve. Capture animals like- Gaur, Sambar, Barking Deer and Four Horned Antelope in your lenses and enjoy the sunset views. Enjoy bird watching through the attractive paths in between the woods of the park. Spot some birds here like- Pintails, Storks, Pond Herons, Teals, Egrets, Pea Fowl, Spur Fowl, Jungle Fowl, Ring Doves, peacock, and lot more other species. Air

The nearest airport is the Jabalpur airport that is at a distance of around 170kms and enjoys a good connection with Delhi, and Mumbai. Another 2 airports are the Raipur and Nagpur airport.

Rail

There are two nearest railway stations to Kanha Tiger Reserve- Gondia that is 145kms away and Jabalpur railway station that is 165kms away from Kanha.

Road

Kanha is located just 165kms from the Jabalpur city in Madhya Pradesh. It enjoys a good connection by road to all the parts of the state. Numerous tourist taxis are available for transport from Jabalpur to Kanha.

Best time to visit

The perfect time to explore Kanha Tiger Reserve is from October to June end. Travellers can enjoy the Wildlife Safari-like- jeep safari, elephant safari, nature trails, and cycling to the travellers. 

Summer

The months from April to June are the summer months with the maximum temperature hovers around 43°C. The weather remains hot.

Monsoon

July till September is witnessed with the monsoon season. The park remains closed for the tourists as the roads are not navigable during this season.

Winter

The months from November to February are considered to be the winter months and the weather is quite cold during this season. The temperature at this particular season ranges between 23.9°C to 11.1°C.
